Gaoth Sáile, which means Salty Wind or Sea Wind, the road tends to keep to the fringe of the peninsula with stunning views of the Nephin Beg Mountain range to the east and the towering Slievemore Peak on Achill Island to the South. The annual greyhound and horse racing on the strand during August in Dú Locha is a must for the visitor and one may also see a group of "Strawboys" going to a local wedding.
